The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2008 with the intake of 27 students into M.Sc, the sanctioned limit. Besides M.Sc Biotechnology course, department also involves in the academic training of Bachelor degree in Biotechnology with Biochemistry and Chemistry combination. The Department of Biotechnology has two spacious general laboratories for conducting practical of M.Sc & B.Sc students, an advanced research laboratory for the research by senior students of Biotechnology and faculty, a modern tissue culture laboratory for the research by senior students of Biotechnology and faculty, and an instrumentation room with state of the art equipment. The labs are well equipped and provided with UV-VIS double beam spectrophotometer, PCR, Cooling Centrifuge, Laboratory centrifuge, BOD incubator, horizontal & vertical laminar airflow cabinets, orbital shaking incubator, rotary shaker, colorimeters, etc. The Department has two spacious classrooms provided with teaching aids such as overhead and LCD projectors. The Department has free access to a seminar hall in the campus.

The aim of the department is to provide new heights in biotechnology to excel both in the academics and research. Knowledge in biotechnology can fetch you wide variety of careers including teaching, pharmaceutical industries, health care organizations, marketing and of course laboratory science.
